We started off this Tuesday with a minor crash on 58th Ave at I-25. Other from that and me thinking it is Wednesday it was a quiet start to the drive on the freeways. Traffic was heavy in the usual spots and we were relatively problem free. Even late we had a few freeway crashes that slowed things down but nothing too terrible.
Tuesday Morning Traffic Summary
Monday Morning Traffic Summary
We had some we areas to start this Monday morning and some dry spots as well. I drove through some of the wet areas coming from the south and hit dry roads north of Evans. The only early morning problem was a vehicle fire on WB I-76 10 miles east of Sterling. CDOT closed the highway so they could clean up the accident.
The commute stayed quiet with just heavier traffic with very few if any problems. Then the bottom dropped out. We had a crash on NB I-25 at the new Ridge Gate Parkway interchange before Lincoln Ave. Then another on NB I-25 exiting Broadway. Then another one opn EB 36 after Sheridan. Then another one on WB I-70 at York. All the crashes caused big traffic delays behind them. I think the wet and the sun played a roll in the accidents we had today.
Friday Morning Traffic Summary
Another quiet start without any major problems to kick off the drive. It stayed that way for most of the morning with a few minor crashes here and there. The most interesting problem was before 7:30 when a refrigerator fell off a truck at 6th and Kalamath. The driver and an officer picked it up and moved it out of traffic.
Highlands Ranch commuters take note of this. Over the next 3 weekends Quebec at C-470 will be restricted to only 1 lane for road work. The closures start on Friday night at 9 and will continue to Monday morning at 6. This is the final push to get the intersection work completed by the end of the month. Lincoln Ave or University to Colorado Blvd could be better ways around the work.
Thursday Morning Traffic Summary
We started off the drive with some highway closures for construction. I-70 at highway 58 was closed for bridge work and C-470 at Quebec was closed for bridge work. C-470 will close again tonight for the same work. There was also a closure of Quebec at Yale for a crash investigation where someone drove off the road, through a fence, hit a shed and died at the scene.
We didn’t see our first big problem until 6:30 when we found a crash on NB Vazquez at 60th Ave, just north of I-270. The road was blocked and drivers had to head up Parkway to 64th to get around the closure. The highways continued to run heavy as per normal for a commute.
A little after 7 a sand hauling semi flipped over on it’s side on 120th at I-25. That crash closed 120th for the rest of the morning. Then the big crash happened on EB C-470 at Lucent. It was a multi car crash that had debris scattered all over the highway. Traffic was forced off the highway at Lucent and then back on the highway. Traffic was backed up to before Wadsworth. It took a long time even after the accident was cleared to get all the traffic back to normal.
Wednesday Morning Traffic Summary
Today’s drive started out very quiet and uneventful. We had to get through some overnight construction as well as a water main break in Boulder at 55th and Arapahoe.
Just after 6:30 we had 2 significant crashes. One on SB I-25 after the Thornton parkway moved to the right shoulder out of traffic but still backed up traffic to before 120th. The other crash involved a motorcyclist on the ramp from WB I-70 to SB I-25. The ramp was restricted to just one lane and backed up traffic on both west and east bound I-70. Shortly after the motorcycle driver was taken to the hospital police closed the ramp. That didn’t do any favors for the commute. The ramp finally opened an hour later at 7:30.
The rest of the commute stayed quiet and relatively problem free. Traffic eased up and thinned out during the 8 o’clock hour.
