Growing By Leaps and Bounds
One morning you just wake up and voila……you are ten times larger than you were before. Now, it’s a double-edge sword. The larger you are (as long as you are in a healthy weight zone) the healthier the babies are. On the flip side, the larger you get, the more uncomfortable you become.
My issue right now is my hips and sciatic nerve on my lower left back. Ouch!!! There are some mornings I wake up, jump out of bed and then almost drop to the floor. I have to stretch, take two steps, stop, stretch and repeat. After I have been walking a little bit, it seems to get better. But the pain and aching never really goes away.
I have done the prenatal massages and they are great, but the relief only lasts a short period. Some people say I should try a chiropractor that specializes in prenatal work. Not quite sure how I feel about it though.
Here is my latest photo (Week 25). The girls are now 1 pound 12 ounces each!!!!!
Hi - just wanted to respond to your sciatic nerve pain and the chiropractor. I just had a baby last May and I had the same problem. In my first pregnancy (2002) I had it as well and I tried physical therapy to help the pain. This approach did NOT work so when I had the same thing happen with the past pregnancy I decided to try a chiropractor. This did wonders for me. I went 1-2 times per week starting at week 19 and it really did help. I would definitely recommend it. I don’t know how I would have made it through without doing it. If you need a name, feel free to contact me and I”ll give you the info. Glad everything seems to be going well with your pregnancy otherwise!
Hi Dayle! While I do not have twin girls- I DO have 3 girls, ages 16 years, 4 1/2 yrs. and almost 4 mos. old! My pregnancies were all quite different (of course being pregnant at 20 is a lot easier than being pregnant at 36!) My babies also got progressively bigger with each pregnancy- my 1st daughter was 6lbs 9oz., my 2nd daughter was 8 1/2 lbs. and my 3rd daughter born this February was 9 lbs. 11 oz.! I was actually blessed to be able to give birth to the last 2 naturally. In fact, I think I was actually in more pain DURING this last pregnancy (I gained 50 lbs.!) than I was when I had to “push” her out! The weight gain was definitely the hardest part, even though I did lose all but 10 lbs. of it by my 6 week check-up. I had a lot of posterior pelvic pain and carpel tunnel in my hands, which was extremely painful and would actually wake me up on the rare night I was able to sleep! (My second pregnancy was my easiest as I gained a little less and was very active, walked A LOT!) And I believe that truly helps. But, with this last pregnancy, everything seemed to hurt and a good night’s sleep was out of the question from about the 2nd month on! My best advice after 16 years of parenting and many sleepless nights, is to definitely sleep when the babies do- like everyone says, “the housework will wait” but the time with your babies flies so fast! (Now, if I’m not up with the baby- I’m up waiting for my 16 yr. old to get home! lol!) Hang in there, try to enjoy this time & you look fabulous!
Hi. I know things are different with twins, but my usual response to friends in their third trimester is that this time period in a pregnancy was designed to make labor and delivery seem like a really great idea (unlike earlier on when you’re feeling good and freaking - just a little - about getting the little person out of there). I concur that you look fabulous. Hang in there - at least these issues have a finite duration.
